Branch Schedule effective Monday, June 29th

Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union is committed to taking every necessary precaution to protect our employees, members-owners, and community in an effort to reduce the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Due to the most recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the greater Houston area, we have updated our branch schedules.

  • Tidwell Office: Our Tidwell Office lobby has closed and our drive-thru remains operational with full service during normal operating hours. Lobby access is available by appointment only.

To set an appointment, call us at 713-699-0795 or use our online appointment form.

For our elderly members and members with accessibility needs, we are still able to serve you in the lobby without an appointment.

  • Downtown Branch: Our Downtown branch will remain open and fully staffed. In-person loan closings will only be conducted online or at our Tidwell Office by appointment.
  • Promise Branch: Closed until further notice.

Lobby Reopening Safety Measures

Update: As of June 29th, our Tidwell Lobby and Promise Branch are closed.

We are excited to announce that we are reopening our Tidwell Office Lobby and our Promise Branch. To ensure the wellness of our staff and members, please read the following safety measures we are putting in place.

Opening Dates

Our Tidwell Lobby is scheduled to reopen on Monday, June 1st and our Promise Branch is scheduled to reopen on Monday, June 8th.Our Promise Branch reopening has been delayed due to technical issues. We will update you when we reopen. As of June 10, our Promise Branch has fully reopened. Our downtown Walker Branch is also currently open.

Capacity Limitations

In order to ensure social distancing, each lobby will limit the number of members at any given time. Social distancing signs are placed throughout the lobby to help guide you. Lobby chairs have been reduced to minimize lobby waiting capacity.

Face Masks/Cloth Face Coverings

Face masks are highly encouraged. CDC guidelines state face masks help slow the spread of COVID-19. While not required to enter a branch, “Your cloth face covering may protect them. Their cloth face covering may protect you.”

Sanitation Stations

Sanitation stations are readily available for use. Please use hand sanitizer upon entering.

Teller Transactions

Social distancing signs in our lobbies will indicate where you are able to wait for a teller. Deposit/Withdrawal and other slips will all be available at the teller window.

Lobby Appointments

While not required, appointments with a loan officer our member services representative are highly encouraged for our Tidwell Office. Appointments can be made by calling 713-699-0795 or by using our online appointment request form. Our Promise Branch and our Walker Branch will take walk-ins.

We are now taking online appointment requests for our Tidwell Lobby. If you are needing to speak with a representative, please fill out the linked form and a team member will contact you to confirm the details.


Updated Drive-Thru Hours

Effective April 13th, our Tidwell Drive-Thru Hours are:

Monday – Friday: 8 M – 6 PM
Saturday: 9 AM – 1 PM


Member Assistance Loan

We continue to think of you and all our members during the coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19). We want you to know that we’re not going anywhere, because at its core, our credit union is not a building or a business, its people unified for a common goal of financial well-being.

We’re always here for you.

These are difficult times for everyone, and we know that some of your biggest payments are due soon. If you’ve been economically impacted by this pandemic and are concerned about your bills, our staff is dedicated to working with and helping you through these uncertain times. Now, more than ever, we are here to support our members.

With our new Member Assistance Loan, you may be eligible to receive up to $3,000 with a maximum payback term of 24 months at 12.99% APR to help with your budgeting concerns to supplement income loss, pay bills, and cover expenses related to COVID-19.

Here are the details:

  • Loan amounts up to $3,000
  • No payments for the first 60 days
  • Repayment terms up to 24-months
  • A 12.99% fixed APR on all loan amounts
  • No applications fees

If you currently have a loan with HMFCU and met the qualifications, your loan payments were automatically deferred for 2-months.

Loan Deferment Program

Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union is committed to the well-being of our member-owners, employees, and community. For nearly 75 years, Houston Metropolitan has been and continues to be a strong and stable credit union. We take our role seriously as your financial institution and in helping you, your loved ones, and our community to get through these uncertain times.

For all of our members with a signature loan or line of credit, auto loan, or member rewards loan, you will receive a no-fee automatic 2-month Loan Deferment (Loan Extension). If you meet the following criteria, your loan payment(s) will be skipped for two months following your next due date:

  • All loans must be current and in good standing
  • A payment to the loan will need to have been made in the last 30 days.

Changes to Our Branches and Drive-Thru Regarding COVID-19

COVID-19 has upended the lives of everyone across the globe. The team at Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union continues to closely monitor the situation as we adapt to the ever-changing landscape. The safety of our staff and membership remain our top priority.

Consistent with local, state, and federal recommendations of limiting gatherings of 10 or more and the CDC’s latest guidance on social distancing, HMFCU has made the decision to join many other financial institutions in temporarily modifying the services offered at our branches.

Branch schedule effective Thursday, March 19th

Tidwell Office: Our Tidwell Office lobby is closed and our drive-thru will remain operational with full service during normal operating hours. For the safety of our staff and members, in-branch access for modified services, such as loan closings, will be available on an appointment basis.

Downtown Branch: Our Downtown branch will remain open and fully staffed. In-person loan closings will only be conducted online or at our Tidwell Office by appointment.
Promise Branch: Closed
Call Center: We are changing our call center hours and increasing staffing to accommodate the changes in our lobbies. Our new call center hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9 AM – 4:30 PM; Wednesday 9 AM – 6 PM; and Saturday 9 AM – 1 PM.

In addition to our drive-thru and surcharge-free ATM’s, we encourage you to take advantage of our mobile app and online banking for managing a wide range of transactions wherever you are:

  • Access and view detailed account information
  • Transfer funds between accounts
  • Pay bills
  • Monitor your credit for any suspicious activity

Access to your money

The safest and easiest way to access your money 24 hours a day during this outbreak is through our online banking services. If you do not have it on your mobile phone, now is an excellent time to download our app or sign up for online access at myhmfcu.org.

If you need to visit one of our branches (our Tidwell office or Downtown branch), our dedicated staff stands ready to help with any needs. While our Tidwell lobby is now closed, we encourage you to visit the Tidwell drive-thru, visit our Downtown branch, or our network of surcharge-free ATMs. (Our Promise branch in southwest Houston is closed until further notice.) Our branches are being fully sanitized and we are following the latest public health protocols and directives to keep our employees and members safe.

A Message from our CEO

The health and safety of Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union members and employees is our top priority. We are closely monitoring recommendations and guidelines regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the World Health Organization (WHO).

All of our branch offices are cleaned and sanitized regularly, and over the past week, we have increased the frequency and extent of those cleanings. As a precaution, we also require employees to clean their hands with sanitizer between every transaction and have increased deep cleaning efforts in high-touch areas inside our branches.

We have communicated to all team members to be mindful of personal prevention and to take any signs of illness seriously by staying home and seeking medical attention as needed. Those members wishing to avoid face to face contact can decrease their exposure by using the following services:

  • Drive-Thru at the Main office on Tidwell Road: Check account balances, deposit cash and checks, withdraw cash, purchase money orders, transfer funds, and more.
  • HMFCU Home Banking and Mobile App: On-the-go access available 24/7 where you can check account balances, transfer money, pay bills, and more.
  • Telephone Banking: Check account balances, transfer funds, and more at 713-699-0795, option 1.
  • Night Deposit: Available at our Tidwell Office and Downtown Branch, deposits are credited to accounts each morning upon opening.
